The Motor City

Detroit (/dɪˈtrɔɪt/ dih-TROYT, locally also /ˈdiːtrɔɪt/ DEE-troyt) is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the most populous U.S. city on the United States–Canada border, and the seat of government of Wayne County. Detroit had a population of 639,111 at the 2020 census, making it the 27th-most populous city in the United States. The metropolitan area, known as Metro Detroit, is home to 4.3 million people, making it the second-largest in the Midwest after the Chicago metropolitan area, and the 14th-largest metropolitan area in the nation. Regarded as a cultural center, Detroit is known for its contributions to music, art, architecture and design, in addition to its historical automotive background. Time named Detroit as one of the fifty World’s Greatest Places of 2022 to explore.

Detroit is a port on the Detroit River, one of the four major straits that connect the Great Lakes system to the Saint Lawrence Seaway. The City of Detroit anchors the third-largest regional economy in the Midwest, behind Chicago and Minneapolis–Saint Paul, and the 16th-largest in the United States. Detroit is best known as the center of the U.S. automobile industry, and the “Big Three” auto manufacturers General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis North America (Chrysler) are all headquartered in Metro Detroit. As of 2007, the Detroit metropolitan area is the number one exporting region among 310 defined metropolitan areas in the United States. The Detroit Metropolitan Airport is among the most important hub airports in the United States. Detroit and its neighboring Canadian city Windsor are connected through a highway tunnel, railway tunnel, and the Ambassador Bridge, which is the second-busiest international crossing in North America, after San Diego–Tijuana. Both cities will soon be connected by a new bridge currently under construction, the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which will provide a complete freeway-to-freeway link. The new bridge is expected to be open by 2024.

Werewolf Setting

Overview

Detroit is a city that has faced and been dealing with war for the last sixty some years. The Pure have had control of the city for the majority of that time but the tides are about to turn, allowing untold dangers to find their places within the city. As Forsaken, whether werewolf or blooded, the war is turning in your favor, allowing you to feel that there’s hope you’ll finally win Detroit back. The goal is even simplistic – find a spirit to become the new City Spirit and take back the city. But what lurks in the darkness once the Pure have been booted from their holdings? What challenges will you face?

The Hisil

The Hisil of Detroit has been forever changed by the warring between the Pure and the Forsaken. Expect the unexpected when it comes to traversing there. The tag line on the edge of the olden maps is a warning all of you should take heed of: Beware, there be dragons here. While unlikely to be actual dragons, the Hisil is a world where time has no meaning, “there still exist spirits who remember (and resent) the Sundering. There still exist beings who if they cannot be revenged upon the gods of the Border Marches, will take vengeance on their descendents. Perhaps the Flesh and Shadow will come to equilibrium, but it sure isn’t going to be anytime soon.” – Hungry Shadows

Spirits and other Hisil Denizens

The Spirits within the Hisil have grown used to the way the Pure do and did things. Expect heavier resistance than normal when trying to influence them, but don’t let that stop you. They can be convinced if you work hard to gain their respect and interest. Or…alternatively, if you want to cow them and make them subservient. There are no right or wrong ways to interact…unless it gets you killed, and then for sure, that was a “wrong way”
