The Court of Vancouver, BC

The city is one of Canada’s largest and densest cities along with its most diverse cities. The greater Vancouver area holds 2.6 million people with the city itself holding more than 662,000 people as of 2021. Ethnically & Linguistically, 49% of residents are non-native English speakers, and 54% of residents belong to a visible minority group. A hub of shipping, art, and business, it’s one of Canada’s crown jewels… no wonder the Invictus hold it.

Vancouver stands as a stronghold of Invictus power in North America, and a gateway city for its allies in the east. Those looking at the city from the outside might think it is quiet with very little going on regarding conflict between Kindred but that would be untrue. Instead of open warfare games and battles of intelligence and spycraft take place with every move under the scrutiny of the most powerful players.

The Kindred of the city isn’t sure exactly what Jane Smith's plans are beyond simply indulging in her own pet project to which she seems to have devoted a staggering amount of the First Estates resources and continues to demand more for its members.

A recent inner conflict inside the church of Longinus nearly spilled out and threatened to drag other Covenants into their bloody battle only a few short years ago and yet despite seemingly doing nothing overt Jane’s prediction that it would end shortly without more bloodshed did come to pass.

Younger Kindred feel the suffocating weight of the history of Vancouver and now have the opportunity to sink their fangs into the fresh meat of Seattle.

The Covenants

The Carthians

Some might be surprised that there is a lively group of Firebrands in Vancouver despite the hegemony of the Invictus. When questioned about how they’ve managed to keep on rebelling they say it’s because they are tough as nails. Other Covenants however whisper that they are allowed to exist as target practice for the Invictus and easy scapegoats for any troubles that might come along. The truth is likely somewhere in between.

Most nights they like to party and just have fun without being too organized and the truth is many of them also claim membership in other Covenants. Most use the Carthian Movement as a place to trade informal favors among each other, especially younger or less influential Kindred.

The Circle of the Crone

The Circle of the Crone of Vancouver echo the worship of their sisters and brothers in Portland worshiping the land and sea. Though more optimistic about the future than their sibling Circle. The Invictus seems to give them plenty of room so long as their rites do not endanger the masquerade. More so they even seem to turn a blind eye when their cause brings them into conflict with various industries that the Invictus control.

Over the last twenty years or so more Kindred from across the sea have come that are distant cousins and members of their own Circles which has caused some friction. Marianna has been doing her best to fold her own Circle with the newer smaller Circles that have arrived but it’s slow going.

The Invictus

Each member of the Invictus is expected to be self-sufficient and provide something of value for the Covenant and its members. Run in a fashion similar to any publicly shared mega-corporation with its members being their own sub corporation expected to diversify, expand and feed the growth of the whole.

Years ago the Covenant still held on to more antiquated ideals with Lords and Ladies running the operation. Most of them died and disappeared all under completely reasonable, if suspicious, fashion. Maybe one had a run-in with some werewolves, another seemed to take their own life and meet the sun after some horribly embarrassing secret was revealed. One by one the way was made for Jane Smith to take the reins and bring the Invictus into the new millennium.

The Ordo Dracul

The Dragons found a place relatively easily in the city providing some more occult services to the Kindred of the city. Like many other chapters of the Ordo Dracul, they are a small covenant that remains quiet. Some might accuse them of being too quiet and insular which has led to wild accusations being thrown at them from time to time. Xander rebuffs them all and has had to explain more than once that the Ordo Dracul does not in fact make monsters for fun or for science and that they are not responsible for every strange occurrence that might take place in the city. As a result, the Ordo Dracul has, over the years, created and organized some of its members to track and solve these sorts of mysteries.

The Lancea et Sanctum

The Lance proudly proclaims to be the first major Covenant to settle in these wild lands. The Covenant is no longer the dominating force in the city and has suffered several major blows over the last century including a major inquisition of its last Archbishop which recently was torpored along with several supporting Bishops. For now the High Inquisitor sent from the Holy City is in charge of the faithful of Vancouver but has empowered a local Paladin and Priest, Matthew Hess, to lead the flock for now.

The church is in flux and vulnerable but it has giving the church a new life without the old traditional values being enforced. Now they can find their own way so long as they do not earn the ire of the High Inquisitor that keeps a watchful eye on the city.
