Hunter Society

The Greece that was

The rebirth of the Greek state at the end of the Second World War created a period of upheaval and constant strife. This change effected every bit of life in the Greek Peninsula, from politics, economy, to even the personal day to life of the everyman; nor did it spare itself from those who took up the Vigil. The Home of Myth has led to a storied history of Hunters of all types coming from the rolling hills and beautiful coasts, and many long standing Conspiracies having deep ties to the region because of their roots in Greece.

As the Information Era began and the turn of the Millenia came about, what had been a fairly stable situation for the Vigil in Greece began to show signs that the foundation of it all was vulnerable. Sudden and unknown bursts of Monstrous activity led to a period of time where the Vigil was stretched to its limit. This led to the Prototype of the Greater Hellenic Vigil that came into being at the end of the first decade, and saw the end of the Crisis.

For a time, things were once again relatively peaceful for the Vigil in the Birthplace of Democracy. That all changed, two years ago:

The Situation

Two years ago, Anti-Government protests began early in the year against the sudden presence of Police on university grounds across the nation. Amidst all of the turmoil and riots, several attacks and breaches of security unfolded across many of the incumbent cellhouses in the Nation, mainly in Athens and the surrounding region. At the same time in Thessaloniki, local cells were entirely wiped out by what many in the Vigil assumed were Supernaturals. The time of peace was over.

In the Two years since, the prototype confederation of the Vigil has been revived, spearheaded by prominent members of several of the Conspiracies and Compacts to consolidate what remained of the Vigil nation wide and determine what was going on. Equally during this time period, both Supernatural attacks and vigilante responses to them increased tremendously, resulting in further Chaos amidst the ongoing volatility of the political climate in the Nation.

Now, in the present day: The Great Hellenic Vigil finds itself at the cusp of turning the tides. On those who had undermined the Vigil, on the Supernaturals that for two years had been given reign to act as they pleased, and on the yet unseen threats that would be facing them in the Digital Era.

Rumors from the Streets

“The breach of security was an outside force, it had to be. Probably politically driven considering the tensions in the region.”

“Word on the street from Agio Panteleimomas is that there is some strange shit going down, stranger than usual for that shit hole that is. Police Patrols going missing without getting into it with the gangs.”

“An American Intelligence Officer has arrived and is stationed with the Valkyries, maybe they have something useful for us so we can stop spinning our wheels.”

“Need to get your hands on something and don’t want it traced to you? Ask around in Exarcheia at night, might find someone to lead you down into the black market.”

“Apparently the Greater Hellenic Vigil is pushing out more and more contracts to the rest of us. Always something out there to hunt.”

The Dangers

The Metropolitan area of Athens, nearly twelve-hundred square miles of urban terrain, amidst which nearly 3.7 million souls live, is a vast region that is nearly impossible to patrol for the Vigil. Amongst all of this, the land that the people and the Vigil live and work on has a recorded history of nearly 3500 years, and even more that is unrecorded.

As such, the Vigil is faced with the monumental task of responding to supernatural events as much as preventing them. Ranging from modern threats of Vampires wielding dangerous code and threatening the stability of the region, to ancient Beasts of legend that mythological Heroes faced in battle thousands of years ago, and everything in between.

That is without mentioning the volatility of the Greek Nation and its politics and socio-economic status of its people, who for thousands of years have been stubborn fighters for what they believe is theirs.

The Greater Hellenic Vigil

The Mission:

Formed in response to the ongoing Crisis, the Greater Hellenic Vigil has roots that run nearly two decades deep inside of the wider Vigil in Greece. With ranking members and staff that have all served tenures as Hunters across the last several decades at every level of taking up the Vigil. This vast wealth of experience and know-how of how much of the Supernatural world works has given the Vigil a foundation through the current dangers. Now at the turn of the second decade of the millennium, the GHV is pushing forward to a new age of the Vigil. A new era being formed in the same region of the world where the Vigil tracks its foundations, and its many innovations.

The Rules:

1) Those that take up the Vigil, will maintain themselves by the Code to keep them from falling astray of the light.
2) Those that take up the Vigil will abstain from as much preventable infighting among members of the Vigil as possible. Errant and unwarranted infighting will be punished to both parties.
3) Those that take up the Vigil will actively take part in coordinating amongst Cells, Compacts and Conspiracies to handle the enemies of the Vigil, mortal and supernatural.
4) Those that take up the Vigil will be good stewards of the greater society that surrounds them, and look to bolster the Mortals in the territories they operate in.
5) Those that take up the Vigil in Greece will register themselves as members of the Greater Hellenic Vigil at all levels, from the newest of Hunters to the well established members of Conspiracies.
6) Those that take up the Vigil in Greece will submit DNA samples along with their registry to aid the Hellenic Vigil in preventing falsified evidence against the Vigil.

The Cells in Power

Godfathers of the Night

The Godfathers are a more criminally focused group, with a great many ties to the underworld of Athens, and Greece as a whole. The face of the Godfathers is Apollo, owner of the Elysium and Tartarus, where the Union, Ashwood Abbey and Lucifuge call their home.

International Interests

Hoo-Rah! This group is based out of the U.S. Embassy, it’s made up entirely of Americans who have a vested interest in the Greater Hellenic Vigil. They have an odd mixture of military training and the chaotic nature of hackers and inventors. The T.V.F., Operation NEBULA, V.A.S.C.U., and Network Zero have their main base of operations out of this building!

Hand of Mercy

Devout, Merciful, Kind. These are all things that are often attributed to the members of the Hand of Mercy. Primarily led by Elder Titos of the Malleus Maleficarum, they also house the members of the Council of Bones and the Survivor’s Club. They tend to work out of the Church of Saint Panteleimon of Acharnai.

Keeper’s of Myth

Often the most inquisitive of the bunch, they are all at least somewhat academically minded, at least, the leaders are. They work from the Acropolis Museum, and they are led by Korina. The members of the Aegis Kai Doru, Ascending Ones, Null Mysteriis, and the Loyalists of Thule can find their great libraries beneath the Museum.

Caduceus

This group is one that is often seen and most don’t understand how it functions, the members of Caduceus have such varied personalities that one would think they wouldn’t work together, much less be friends, but they have a common goal, of trying to preserve life. And that is why the members of the Asclepion, Cheiron Group, and Campion Wildlife Services are found here at an older Temple to Asklepios.
