How To Thread
Threading is a vital part of playing on EN. While there is no one proper way to do it, there are some general guidelines and courtesies you should consider when working in your character threads. Note that each Venue Team, and indeed each ST will have their own preferences, and when in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask them if your style matches their preference!
Your thread is where you post scene logs, take off-camera actions, spend XP, request equipment or other sheet changes, request scenes, and post bluebooks. Your thread is also where you can access your character sheet and track both your Aspirations and your Conditions. As you can see, you thread serves many functions, which we will break down further on.
You may post as often as you’d like, though the Venue Team is only required to respond to threads once a week.
We’ve provided a list of templates for use in your threads and fellow players may have also added to the list with different template options.. The two main advantages of using templates are that they keep your thread organized and the STs are very familiar with the templates and do it helps ensure nothing gets missed in your threads.
The best way to ensure all your posts get seen is to edit one giant post with several labels on it until the team posts they’ve checked your thread, and then start a new post.
Then the ST posts that they’ve checked your thread. After, you then you start a new one just like the one above.
Scene logs are the primary way to earn beats and experience, and therefore are one of the most important things to post in your thread! It’s highly recommended you use the template to post your logs and it makes it easier on the STs to spot and tally your beats! Let’s go over the template.
Crossover?: No/Yes, (BtP/CtL/DtR/HtV/VtR) This is a required field, and if the answer is yes, you must post the log within 7 days of the scene.
Scene Name:. If it’s an ST scene, you can use the name posted on the calendar, or make up your own. If it’s not a named ST-ran scene, you can make up a name.
Ran By: List any STs involved, you may leave this blank otherwise or say Players.
Room Name: [BX] Room Name Here – self-explanatory
Date & Time: XX/XX/XXXX at 00:00 XM – self-explanatory
NPCs Involved: List Here – list any NPCs present
PCs Involved: List Here – list all PCs present, even if you do not interact with them
Brief Summary: A few sentences is fine

(+1) Scene Log – you always get one beat for providing a log, you may earn more, see guide on earning beats.
It is also recommended that you tally your total beats, many people do this after the Beats Earned line, others (those who post one larger post, for example) total then below their logs.
Thread actions are anything your character is trying to achieve off-camera. These actions usually involve a dice roll, but not always. These can be things such as crafting, research, social maneuvering, espionage, schmoozing, or setting up equipment procurement. Basically anything that benefits your character somehow. Please keep in mind that each character gets two thread actions per week, your venue should have a post in their OOC thread about which day threads are processed. It’s advisable to have your actions posted before thread day to ensure they are processed on time. It is also recommended that you use the Thread Actions template found here (and modeled in the Templates section).
Bluebooks are similar to thread actions but are more fluff than mechanically based, they also tend to be more narrative. There’s also no limit to how much (or little) you bluebook. Bluebooks can earn you beats at your team’s discretion. They may also be used for justification of XP expenditure. Examples of bluebooks include: diary entries, slice of life fiction, training montages, etc. There is currently no template for bluebooks, but I usually make a header in blue that says Bluebook in my master posts and then link to Google document. Using the template is highly recommended, as it contains all of the necessary components to successfully spend your XP! Please note that you are not considered to have any of your purchases until they are actually on your sheet. You should also check with your specific venue regarding any justification required, though the general rule of thumb is anything 3 or fewer dots only requires minimal justification. Your venue team will post whether or not the XP spends were approved, and if not, why they were not.
XP Spend Request
CURRENT XP: X.X XP – how much XP you have currently on your sheet, check with your ST team to determine if they allow you to also spend unprocessed XP.
NEW PURCHASE #1
Book & Page: usually only needed if not in the CoD or venue corebooks
Justification: – usually a sentence or two if 3 or fewer dots. 4 or 5 dots usually require more writing!
Supporting Logs: – if required by your STs, and/or for 4 or 5 dot purchases
SPENT XP: X.X XP – how much you total purchases cost
BALANCE XP: X.X XP – your new balance after purchases. It’s also nice to the STs if you include any gained XP from unprocessed logs, but this is not required.
There is no current template for this, but if you clearly label a post as an Equipment or Sheet Update request, that should be sufficient to the STs. Please keep availability in mind when requesting equipment, if you wish to obtain something beyond the scope of your Resources, that should be a thread action!
These can be found in the first post of your thread. This post is fully editable, so keeping track of both Aspirations and Conditions is something players can do! You should make sure that you’ve selected two short term and one long term aspiration. If you resolve any of these, please move them to the completed Aspirations below the current Aspirations section. If you fulfill an Aspiration, you may select a new one right away. If you abandon one, you may select a new one but must wait a week before swapping it out again. Please also add any Conditions gained to this post.
The two key things to remember when threading is to label things and to organize things. Fewer but larger posts help the STs not miss things, and bold labels also help. While the templates are not required, they do help reduce the chance that something will be missed and help ensure that ask the necessary components are added to each type of post. Remember, you can make your own templates too if you organize differently, just try and include the required information.
