House Rules

House Rule #1
Eternal Noire will not make any house rules unless…
- A clarification is needed for a rule that is vague or coming into question often
- A power or rules balance is needed to ensure a fair game
- A rule enriches the setting, story, or fun on Eternal Noire.
- This rule is here to protect the integrity of the books and system as a whole.
Adding New Rules
Any Rule or System changes made during the course of the game will be posted to the players for constructive feedback, after the staff has their own discussion and BEFORE a new rule is implemented. A finalized rule that has gone through this feedback process will then be announced officially when it is implemented into play.
General House Rules
Time
- Scene: 1 scene
- Session: 1 day
- Chapter: 1 week
- Story: 1 month
- Chronicle: Game length in entirety
Custom Items/Powers
Any custom created items or powers must be submitted to your Venue ST Team for approval by your character thread. You MUST receive approval before you can use the item in any IC scene, or you would be breaking our Code of Conduct.
Merits
- Mystery Cults: All MCs must be discovered through play and may not be blue booked to join them. Check the Approved Mystery Cults List for more ooc information available on these cults.
- Player-Created MCIs MUST be formed through play and have at least 5 total PC members before they can be created. Retainers and Staff do not count.
- Striking Looks: The bonus to dice rolls does NOT count towards the maximum allowed equipment bonus (+5).
- Fighting Style – Light Weapons: These maneuvers may only be used with one-handed weapons with a BASE (meaning unmodified by tinkering or magic) damage rating of two or less.
Queens
For reasons unknown, Heroes have difficulty tracking Begotten in Queens. Sometimes, when a Beast would normally ping nearby Heroes, nothing happens. Likewise, Heroes have a penalty equal to 5 – Lair to stalk a Beast within the border of Queens.
Satiety
Satiety gradually depletes, per the book. At Lair 1-3 this is every week, and 4-6 it’s every three days. Beasts may regain Satiety in one of three ways:
- All Beasts gain an extra Feeding action, in addition to their normal thread actions. A Potential 1 feeding requires nothing more than a description of the action. A Potential 3 feeding requires using one week’s feeding action to prepare. A Potential 5 action requires 3 weeks’ worth of feeding actions to prepare.
- Scenes will often include ways to feed, though not every scene will tailor to every characters’ Hunger. Potency 1 potentials will be more common than Potency 3 which will be more common than Potency 5, but all are possible.
- Preparation from thread actions can resolve during scenes, and scenes can be used in lieu of a feeding action as well; please alert the ST team ahead of time if you feel a scene can either resolve or contribute to a feeding action, and we will try to include the specifics in the scene!
Family-Ties
- Placing Family Ties on a PC requires consent by the player of said PC. A player may resolve Family Ties at any time if they no longer wish to be tied.
- Players may only place Family Ties on NPCs of other venues with permission of that venue’s ST team; NPCs may resolve the condition at any time.
- For Beasts who do not want to place Family Ties on other PCs, wish a tie with a supernatural that we do not have a venue for, or do not wish to engage in crossover; minor NPCs can be generated to fulfill these needs. Finding a minor NPC requires a thread action and then social maneuvering actions to convince them to agree.

Status Perk
Only Conspiracies suffer the 6 – Hunter Group Status dots allowed rule. Compacts may purchase however many Status dots they want.
Status perks from the Compacts and Conspiracies have been altered in several instances. Please check the Translation Manuscript for current benefits in our game.
Tactics
If a roll calls for a specific action, the players can get expressed approval from the ST team in threads to ask if the roll can be replaced by a similar action. This must be asked before a scene begins, otherwise, it will not be accepted until the next scene. (Example: Strength + Brawl to tackle the target. Jane can ask us in threads if Occult + Telekinesis instead to hold the target in place would be acceptable. We would then respond with a Yes or No with other possible options if the ST’s don’t agree with the roll.)
Compact & Conspiracy Membership
Players can be in one Compact and one Conspiracy, but not two of the same tier.
Conviction
Hunters receive a new perk called “Conviction”. See the Setting Mechanics wiki page for more details.
Beats for Experience
We are removing the “Spend a beat to roll Res + Comp to restore willpower” as a beat expenditure.
