Beasts and Detecting Other Monsters

Post by Xolotl »

We've talked over the Family Resemblance rules. Beasts can passively detect any fully supernatural creatures (Changelings, Deviants, and Vampires per our current venues) unless they actively use an ability or power to conceal their nature - strengthening the Mask, Blush of Life, Mimicry, etc. If they have such an ability active, the Beast must win a Clash of Wills and then make the Family Resemblance roll. Should the creature use a power later on, another Clash of Wills may be attempted if the first one failed.

What this means is, if you're a Changeling, Deviant, or Vampire that doesn't want a Beast to automatically sniff them out, make sure to use your hiding abilities I!

As a point of clarification, Beasts still can't see through the Mask, etc. They have an intuitive understanding of the creature they're looking at - changeling, fire-themed, but they can't actually see through the Mask any more than anyone else can. This is also true with other Beasts - Ezra's Horror might give the info: toxic-themed mermaid, but you wouldn't see their Horror unless they used an Atavism. Basically, it's an intuitive knowing, not actual perception.

Alternatively: if a Beast should have the Lair trait of Mirage that would make them essentially immune to illusions would that allow them to see through a changeling Mask?
