Re: EN Policy Updates & Reminders

Post by Lilith »

Hello Players,

With us fully into our first week reopened for roleplay, we have a lot of new members to our community. Eternal Noire prides itself in being a place that is anti-clique, and friendly to all players. To achieve this mission of ours we have certain policies in place that help ensure our community is as welcoming as possible.

There are a few policy things we want to remind our community of:
  • Our Player Guide is set up like a Knowledge Base. You can search for phrases or other keywords which makes locating a policy or a rule simple and easy.
  • Our Site Policies are located in our Our Player Guide. Please be reminded that you agree to follow these policies by signing up for an account on Eternal Noire.
  • Crossover Scenes MUST be Logged: Our 2.0 chronicle is much more crossover-friendly than our 1.0 chronicle. This allows you to never feel stuck waiting for someone of your venue to be online in order to go in character. However, please remember that per our Chat Policy (4b) that all scenes involving crossover must be reported to your Venue ST via your character thread.
    • This is to ensure all crossover is handled fairly and any positive or negative consequences of crossover can be addressed.
    • Please submit these logs no later than 7 days after the completion of the scene.
  • Don’t be a Jerk: This is our most important rule for our community. It is also a requirement of several site policies, as we take being civil and courteous to each other out of character very seriously in a game where you may not always be so in character. For more information about this rule, please see our Code of Conduct.
  • Lobby Etiquette is required. The Lobby is the first place many new players come and ensuring it is a safe and welcoming place is a top priority of our Staff. It is also per our Chat Policy (1a-d).
    1. Please keep all discussions in the lobby friendly and welcoming at all times.
    2. REMEMBER: Welcoming people and being a good community member can earn you a beat.
    3. Topics to generally avoid:
      • Real Life politics, religion, sports.
      • Sharing sensitive IC information in the public lobby.
    4. “Lobby Griefing” is not a proper feedback submission avenue. Please send an FPM to the relevant ST or to the Admin team if you have any feedback.
Profile Pictures: Much as with our Wiki, these are images that need to follow our Safe For Work guidelines.
Changes to Existing Policies:

To be added to the Chat Policy:
  • *NEW* Automated Message Logging: Our chat program automatically logs all data collected through it, including but not limited to direct messages, protected room logs, and messages sent between players. Administrators have the ability to check these records when necessary. Players should not assume to have privacy in regards to the messages being transmitted in any portion of the chat.
    • Please Note: Administrators limit this access, and will normally only access these logs when investigating a complaint about a player or ST.
  • *NEW* Petition System: Our chat program has a ticketing report system built-in. This allows players to make complaints about player and staff behavior at the time it happens in a quick and easy way. This option time stamps and records the reported message as “evidence” and submits it for review.
    • Please note that while the admin team can act on and enforce our site policies using this petition system, it should not replace submitting feedback. While this system is good for reporting singular messages, it does not replace the full feedback system for general feedback and issues between players or between players and staff. Submitting feedback helps to ensure no feedback is lost or missed.
As always if you have feedback on these policies or any of our site rules please submit feedback to the Admin Team.

Happy Roleplaying!

EN 2.0 Experience Policy Update

Post by Lilith »

Hello Everyone,

We have listened to the feedback from players, public and anonymous, as well as the feedback and data from our Staff. The Admin team has heard everyone's concerns about our current XP cap system and we are making a change to our system to address the issues that have been voiced. We do not make changes to these policies lightly, but we very much believe our rules and policies are living documents that need to be updated in response to our live chronicle as needed through the game.

Instead of cap raising every 4 months by 20 XP, we will be raising cap every 2 months by 10 XP. This should assist in any stagnation from players who recently hit cap as well as help encourage players who have not hit cap that they have some buffer time to catch up to their fellow players.

The new schedule will be as follows:

The old schedule for reference:

If you have any questions or want to submit feedback, please use the feedback form. All feedback given through this form is direct to the admin team.

Happy Roleplaying!

EN 2.0 Conflict of Interest Policy Corrections

Post by Lilith »

Hello Players,

It's come to our attention that the Conflict of Interest Policy that got transferred from the old site to the new site was the original one. The original policy was much more strict and limiting for play. We updated the policy in 1.0, and then have made additional clarifications to it. The new policy will be replacing the old policy on the website effective immediately, and we hope that this helps some players who have been voicing concerns about the strictness of the policy. 2.0 is definitely more crossover-friendly than 1.0 was.

New Policies

Player:

Conflict of Interest is defined on EN as any potential for an IC relationship (cell/cabal/coterie/pack mates, IC family, or significant other) on one PC to positively affect or benefit you on another PC or in another venue. A quick rule is, if you have some kind of benefit or plot advantage from playing with one PC that transfers to yourself from one PC to another, then CoI exists. CoI does not exist with coffee shop roleplay or roleplay that does not garner plot or mechanical benefit from one of your PCs to another. In order to keep our game crossover-friendly, please pursue plot hooks on one and not multiple of your PCs. If you are worried, feel free to ask the staff about your situation for advice.

Examples of conflict of interest: “Bob & Mary”
  • Bob’s PC1 is dating Mary’s PC1, Bob may give equipment, mechanical benefit, or share plot from Mary’s PC1 t with Mary’s PC2.
  • Bob’s PC2 may not attack or go after someone who offended May’s PC1.
  • Bob’s PC1 may not receive equipment, mechanical benefit, or act on plot information given to him by Mary’s PC2 or that originated from Bob’s PC2.

Staff

Conflict of Interest Policy Expanded

As ALL policies, the Player Conflict of Interest Policy must be abided by Staff. Since we hold our staff to a higher standard, staff MAY NOT do requests or run personal (one-on-one) scenes for players in their venue with whom they have an IC relationship with for one of their characters. This may seem strict, but transparency and the culture of trust that we want to foster here on Eternal Noire depends on not only our communication with players and other staffers, but the positive perception of the players we run the game for.

When there is not enough staff to accommodate the Staff CoI Policy, Admins need to be notified when a CoI is a concern and they will monitor ST activity with these specific characters of concern. All communication and planning between the STs with/about the player should be clearly kept in thread work and ST plot chats so that it is viewable for Admin Audit at any time. This protects our staff from allegations out of their control, keeps everyone honest, and promotes a trusting environment with our players.

Examples of conflict of interest: “Bob & Mary” Expanded
  • Bob is also an ST, so Bob should not do Mary’s PC2’s XP requests in their thread and should instead have another ST handle her thread. (ST may view her thread to communicate with the rest of the team.)
  • Bob as an ST may not run a personal/individual scene for Mary’s PC2 to give her Status 5.

As always, if any players have any questions or concerns about these policy updates please use the feedback form on this page: https://eternalnoire.com/about/submit-feedback/.

Thank you,

Code of Conduct Update

Post by Lilith »

To All EN Players:

We have been happy to be in operation for 4 years now, and we are very proud of the community we’ve built up. We are ran by gamers of varying backgrounds, experiences, and identities, and we pride ourselves in ensuring that Eternal Noire is always an OOC welcoming place for players and staff. That is why we have never had a need to clarify past our Terms of Service page that Hate Speech is not welcome on EN.

However, we have seen a need to expand our Code of Conduct to include a very clear definition of hate speech and to ensure all players and staff understand that this is a one-strike rule. Therefore, effective immediately, we have updated our Code of Conduct policy to include the following:

We hope this addition will clarify our stance on being a welcoming community to all players.

Happy Coming Out Day & Indigeonous Peoples’ Day and enjoy your roleplaying!

A Note on Real Life Events and EN Story

Post by Lilith »

Hello Players,

Many of us in the USA are definitely experiencing some drastic shifts in life and stress levels due to the supreme court decisions released last week. We want to remind the players that while major real-life events will have an impact on us in the real world, we as a site policy, do not use these real-life events as part of the plotline here on Eternal Noire. The reason for this decision originated when the pandemic hit during the 1.0 chronicle. We truly believe that a game where we want to roleplay with the supernatural and the ultimate goal is to be the protagonists (or anti-heroes sometimes) of the plots and stories and at the end of the day have fun. We do not feel it is appropriate to force our players to confront difficult, emotionally charged real-life events in a game where we play pretend, roleplay, and many times escape these things to enjoy the game together.

We want this place to be your fun game space.

The events will not be used in our safe game space are:
  • Covid-19 Pandemic as on-screen plot/story.
  • Russian invasion into Ukraine.
  • SCOTUS overturning Roe v. Wade.

If you would like, I have posted some links in the OOC forums for organizations that are worth donating to help change real life if you have a lot of desire and want some direction there. Feel free to visit it, or not, that is entirely up to you.

Happy Roleplaying!
